The Pine Tree Water Control District was created by a circuit court decree dated May 17, 1971. The Pine Tree Water Control District is an independent special district and does not have ad valorem tax authority but rather uses a special assessment in order to execute its duties and related activities.
The Board of the Pine Tree Water Control District is comprised of three members elected by the landowners within the District on a one acre one vote basis. Wellington employees serve as staff members to the PTWCD.
The Pine Tree Water Control District is comprised of approximately 4,022 acres of land in Palm Beach County, Florida. Flying Cow Road serves as a boundary along the eastern portion of the District; a portion of the northern boundary of the district is Southern Boulevard. PTWCD lies directly east of the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge.
